Genting Highlands (Malay: Tanah Tinggi Genting ; Chinese: 雲頂高原) (1700m above sea level 3°24′6.51″N, 101°46′2.62″E) is a mountain peak within the Titiwangsa Mountains on the border between the states of Pahang and Selangor of Malaysia and is home to a famous mountain resort by the same name which can be reached by car from Kuala Lumpur in one hour. It is also accessible by the world's fastest and South East Asia's longest cable car called Genting Skyway (3.38km[1]). In 2006, the resort had 18.4 million visitors.[1] Genting Highlands was founded by the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong in the late 1960s.

It is sometimes informally known as the Las Vegas of Malaysia, dubbed the 'City of Entertainment' as it is the only legal land-based casino in Malaysia, run by Resorts World Bhd, a sub-company of Genting Group, and First World Hotel and Resort Sdn Bhd. The resort, Genting Highlands Resort, also features many hotels owned by Genting subsidiaries including Genting Hotel, Highlands Hotel, Resort Hotel, Theme Park Hotel and Awana Genting. First World Hotel has a total of 6,118 rooms, making it the largest hotel in the world.[2] It surpassed MGM Grand Las Vegas, the former largest hotel in the world with 5,690 rooms.

Other facilities in this resort include theme parks, a Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum, a wind-turbine sky diving simulator, world-class golf course and shopping malls.

There is a computerised system outside First World Hotel which can automatically calculate the number of parking-bays left in four hotels; Genting Hotel, Highlands Hotel, First World Hotel and Resort Hotel.

Genting is also home to a 100 million year old forest..

Kota Kinabalu is situated on the tropical island of Borneo and is the state capital of the Malaysian state Sabah, one of the two states of East Malysia. The location of the city is absolutely amazing, and from the airport it is just a short ride to mostly any hotel. Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain of Borneo. It is located 70 miles from the northern tip of the island. It is an impressive flat-topped granite block, rising in isolation, thousands of feet above the gently sloping plain. It is a rugged, heavily eroded mountain, scarred by gullies, with jagged rocks and sharp pointed peaks surrounding the main terrace. The lower slopes are farmed, while the higher slopes are covered in thick jungle with rich biodiversity. The mountain's high peak is easily climbed, but all other peaks require rock climbing skills.


Kota Kinabalu is the provincial capital, and is the most important city in the area. It is just 35 miles southwest of the mountain, and is accessible by either air or boat from Singapore/ Malaysia.

International Sea Sport Complex - Besides the various activities already mentioned, Labuan also hosts the International Sea Challenge in May every year which comprises of four events - the Underwater Treasure Hunt, Jet Sport Challenge, Cross Channel Swim Challenge and Big Game Fishing Tournament.

Wreck Diving - Pulau Labuan has one of the best wreck diving sites in Asia. There are four wreck sites on the island's locally known as The "Australian" Wreck, The "American" Wreck, The "Blue Water" Wreck and The "Cement" Wreck.

The Chimney - The Chimney is just a short drive from the town just like any other destination due to the island size. It is where the coal mining was done in the early days.

Bird Park - The bird park is just opposite of the Chimney. Consist of 3 major dome connected together. Houses a number of species of bird. Entrance is free.

Beach - As the Pearl of South China Sea, it has beautiful stretches of beach. The famous ones are Pohon Batu and Pancur Hitam where the locals hang out and have a BBQ picnic during the weekend.
